First Day of Coding Club

Today, we had our first day of Coding Club, and it went really well. The kids all set up their own account at http://learn.code.org. I encourage you parents or siblings to go try out this free online curriculum set up for the Hour of Code project last Fall 2013. It really is a fun way to learn about coding.

The kids are working through the first stages of the lessons and learning how to talk to computers in a way that a computer can understand. It was so fun to see the kids get excited when they solved a challenging puzzle. Each student is working through the exercises at their own pace. We'll pick back up next week and keep working through the lessons. The lessons are all self-paced, so if your child has to miss a meeting, that is totally fine.

We are making one change to our meetings. We found that an hour was just a bit too long to hold all of the kids' attention, so we are changing the start time to 8:15am.

Thank you so, so much to Laurel and Melody who were there today to help Byron, Leanne, and myself get the kids set up. It really helps to have more adults there -- we need to help them when they get stuck and solve technical issues. If you can help at future meetings, please add your name to the Coding Club Schedule.

We'll be back soon with more updates.

Thank you!
